Plan International demands urgent aid and access to civilians trapped in El Fasher

Toronto, ON, October 28, 2025 – In response to the escalating fighting in El Fasher, North Darfur, Plan International Sudan’s Country Director, Mohammed Kamal has shared the following statement:

“We are deeply alarmed by reports of civilian casualties and forced displacement amid further escalation of fighting in El Fasher. We are urging all armed actors to protect all civilians in the city, including children and girls, by guaranteeing access to humanitarian aid and safe passage for civilians trapped by the escalation.

“The biggest concern of the humanitarian community now is the safety of the hundreds of thousands of people still trapped in the city. Under International Humanitarian Law, it is the obligation and responsibility of all armed actors in the conflict to guarantee the protection of civilians and humanitarian actors providing lifesaving support to the most affected.

“The suffering in El Fasher is devastating. People are enduring unimaginable conditions, surviving on animal feed in the absence of food. We urgently call for safe, rapid, and unhindered access so humanitarian workers can save lives.

“On-going clashes in and around El Fasher town have forced people to flee to displacement sites in Tawila.

“Plan International is scaling up its response to provide food, essential emergency supplies and mental health and psychosocial support to people displaced from El Fasher.

“Children and women remain among the most affected in conflict, facing the greatest risks and the least protection. Despite our readiness to assist, the window to reach those trapped in El Fasher’s persistent violence is rapidly closing.”
