NEW MEMBERS JOIN PLAN INTERNATIONAL CANADA’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS

TORONTO, ON – November 25, 2021 – Rima Ramchandani and Paula Sahyoun have joined Plan International Canada’s Board of Directors, and will now contribute their time, talents and expertise to the advancement of children’s rights and equality for girls.

Paula Sahyoun is a social innovator and Associate at Social Venture Connexion (SVX). She is Plan International Canada’s first Young Director through the Fora: Network for Change Girls on Boards program. Paula is also a World Economic Forum Global Shaper, Climate Reality Leader and United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network Local Pathways Fellow.

Rima Ramchandani is a partner and co-head of Torys’ Capital Markets Practice, as well as a prominent figure in capital markets. She was named one of IFLR1000’s (International Financial Law Review) Women Leaders in 2021. In 2016, she was appointed to the Ontario Government’s Women in Business Steering Committee.

“Our new members bring remarkable skills and unique experiences to our Board,” said Patsy Anderson, Board Chair. “Paula is our first Youth Director – we believe it’s vital that young people guide our work and are at the forefront of driving change.”

“We’re also thrilled to have Rima join us,” Anderson continued. “She’s a passionate and powerful advocate for gender equality and has been a Plan International Canada supporter for almost 15 years.”

“As COVID-19 deepens inequalities across the globe, our work is needed now more than ever,” said Lindsay Glassco, President and CEO. “The perspectives, experience and commitment that Rima and Paula bring will make a tangible difference in the lives of children and girls around the world.”

Plan International Canada bids farewell and thanks to our two outgoing Board members, Aaron Regent and Christine Magee. Both were Child Sponsors before joining the Board in 2016 and 2017 respectively. As Board members, they demonstrated a strong belief in being compassionate global equality seekers and giving back to the community. Some of their most significant contributions have included girls’ rights and sexual and reproductive health initiatives in Peru, improved education programs in Cambodia and Ghana, and youth empowerment in Colombia.

Plan International Canada is grateful for their support and the impact they made through their Board volunteer positions.
