Plan International has a more than 80-year history of raising funds to help improve children’s lives. We greatly value and appreciate the support of our donors and are honoured to earn their trust. In our relationship with donors and our fundraising practices, we are proud to have accreditation to Imagine Canada’s Standards Program and adhere to the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Donor Bill of Rights.
Imagine Canada's Standards Program
Plan International Canada is a member of Imagine Canada’s Standards Program. The Program awards accreditation to Canadian non-profits and charities who demonstrate excellence in 5 areas of operations; Board Governance, Financial Accountability and Transparency, Fundraising, Staff Management and Volunteer Involvement. Members agree to comply with all the standards, which include:
- Providing tax receipts; providing full information about donations, the charity’s financial and accountability information, and the individual or body soliciting funds; encouraging donors to seek independent advice; respecting donors’ privacy; honouring recognition agreements; responding promptly to complaints.
- Truthful and accurate fundraising that is not exploitative of project participants; following online solicitation practices consistent with the Canadian Code of Practice for Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce; ensuring all solicitors engage in ethical fundraising practices; disclosing financial information on fundraising activities; not engaging in commission-based fundraising; not selling donor lists; informing the charity’s governing board of any complaints related to the Code.
- Conducting financial affairs responsibly; using donations to support the charity’s work, and designated donations for the purpose for which they were given; publishing factual and accurate annual audited financial reports prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles; a regular board review of fundraising cost-effectiveness; developing investment and gift acceptance policies.
