Frequently asked questions

How will the strike impact my support for Plan International Canada?

The current disruption to mail service could mean delays in:

  • Plan International Canada receiving donations sent through the mail, including recurring monthly donations
  • delivery of child sponsorship welcome packages and letters or updates from sponsored children
  • delivery of your Gifts of Hope catalogue and/or Gifts of Hope holiday cards

How can I still donate?

If you were planning to mail in a donation this holiday season, we hope you will consider an alternate option so that we can continue carrying out our mission to advance children’s rights and equality for girls without interruption.

There are several options for you to consider:

What if I’ve already mailed in a donation?

Firstly, thank you! There may be a delay in our acknowledging your kind gift, but rest assured we will receive it once delivery resumes. If you requested a hard copy of your tax receipt, there may also be a delay in receiving it.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email us at info@plancanada.ca or give us a call at 1-800-387-1418 and one of our agents will be able to assist you. Our call centre is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET or you can reach us via live chat Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET.

What does this mean for child sponsorship?

The Canada Post strike will mean delays in you receiving your child sponsorship welcome package. You can learn more about the program here.

There will be impacts to your ability to receive updates from, or exchange letters with the child you are sponsoring for the duration of the strike. But please know that your special relationship with your child will continue to be nurtured and supported, and there are options in the meantime.

To receive updates about your child’s community, please feel free to contact our Donor Care team at 1-800-387-1418. Our call centre is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.

If you have questions about exchanging letters with your child, please send an email to letters@plancanada.ca and we can send your letter digitally to the country office where the child lives.

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to email info@plancanada.ca or call us at 1-800-387-1418. Our Donor Care call centre is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, and we will be happy to assist you.

How will this impact tax receipts?

If you have made an online one-time donation of $25 or more, you will receive an email with your tax receipt at the time of the donation.

Tax receipts for recurring donations that total over $25 annually will be sent as usual in February, via your preferred delivery method (email or mail). We don’t anticipate these being impacted by the strike at this time.

Should anything change, we will provide you with more information as soon as possible.

Where can I find information on Gifts of Hope?

If you were hoping to receive a Gifts of Hope catalogue by mail, please note that there will be a delay in shipping, however the entire catalogue is available online at plangifts.ca.

If you were interested in receiving Gifts of Hope holiday cards by mail, there are other options available. You can email the card of your choice, or you can print it off at home. Visit plangifts.ca and select “email card” or “print and fold” at checkout.

What happens when postal service resumes?

When service resumes, we anticipate that Canada Post will be working through a backlog of mail which could take some time to sort through.
