Your gift transforms lives

Rose and Leo

My husband Leo and I with one of our sponsored children in the Dominican Republic.

As child sponsors since 1984, we were able to make three separate visits in 1996, 2004 and 2012 to our sponsored children. We saw Plan International’s work first hand, and I can tell you that the communities we visited were truly transformed. My husband and I wanted to ensure that the good work, and the great successes we witnessed in the villages continue long after we have passed on.

That’s why we chose to leave a gift in our wills to Plan International Canada. You see, because we've been sponsors for so long, we’ve seen a little girl grow into a woman. And we’ve seen how she has been provided the opportunity to create a better life for herself.

When we first met Desiret in the Dominican Republic, her family was incredibly poor. In fact, we discovered that her family had to borrow furniture from neighbours for our visit so we would have a place to sit.

When we returned years later they were doing much better. Desiret was off to university and her mom had a job that sustained the family. I know we played a part in that. It still makes me so proud that we made the decision way back in 1984 to sponsor a child. Watching her succeed is just another reason why we feel so good about the decision we’ve made to leave a gift to Plan International Canada in our wills.
