How child sponsorship has changed my life: Ruth’s story

Meet Ruth. She’s 11 years old. She and her family live in a community in rural Rwanda, and have a happy, flourishing life. Ruth is one of more than 13,000 children living in Rwanda who are sponsored by Plan donors. As a result, Plan is working in their communities to improve access to clean water and sanitation, education, health care and the economic security of families.

See for yourself and learn how Child Sponsorship has helped Ruth, her family and her entire community break the cycle of poverty and begin a cycle of progress:

The power of Child Sponsorship

Sponsoring a child with Plan provides you with a unique opportunity to help make a difference in the life of a child, family and community in one of the countries where we work. Ruth’s story is a great example.

Because of Child Sponsorship, Ruth no longer walks miles to get to school. Plan built a new school in her village where Ruth has access to clean drinking water, new learning materials and the opportunity to participate and express herself freely.

It starts with a child...

Through Child Sponsorship, Plan set up a village savings group, and Ruth’s father is a member. This group has helped him increase his farming production and improve his family’s income. And Samuel, Ruth’s younger brother, now attends a Plan-supported daycare where he’s learning from his mother, who is now an early-education teacher.

It starts with child sponsors like you, and results in a thriving community for families and children just like Ruth. The power of Child Sponsorship has helped Ruth’s family find success and happiness, something we hope every child we work with discovers.
