Plan International Canada appoints new CEO

TORONTO, ON –April 6, 2020 –Plan International Canada’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Lindsay Glassco as the organization’s next President and Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1, 2020.

Lindsay Glassco

With over 25 years of experience and a successful track record of work with the UN, NGOs, government and business sectors, Glassco joins the organization at a pivotal time as Plan International Canada is halfway through their ambitious five-year strategic plan and fundraising goals. Under her leadership, the organization will continue to innovate and adapt to new challenges, ensuring children’s rights and equality for girls are at the core of this work.

For over 70 years, Plan International has worked tirelessly to advance the rights of children, raise awareness of critical issues disproportionately affecting girls and ignite a worldwide movement. As the world continues to navigate and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, this mission has never been more important. There are currently 263 million children out of school – a number steadily increasing due to the current global health crisis. Sadly, many will never return. This imminent threat to children’s education and ripple effects that will negatively impact their health and wellbeing has intensified Plan International Canada’s fight to protect the most vulnerable children.

“Throughout my career, the importance of advocating for children’s rights and equality for girls has been at the forefront,” said Glassco. “I have followed Plan International Canada’s work for years, watching with admiration as the organization ignited a movement for equality and put tangible efforts in place to educate and empower girls. I’m thrilled to be joining the team and expanding our work to ensure children, especially girls, can thrive.”

Glassco’s foray into international development started as a teacher in rural Lesotho, where she witnessed firsthand the realities faced by those in the communities where she worked. Most recently, she was with CARE International, fulfilling the role of Secretary General. Prior to her time at CARE, she held executive roles at the International Olympic Committee, Special Olympics Canada, and Right to Play. Glassco also has a wide breadth of knowledge that will serve her well as she takes on this new role, including subject matter expertise in global health, early child and youth development, education, gender equality, food security, human rights, and disability.

Under Glassco’s leadership, Plan International Canada will rise to new heights – ensuring more children around the globe are able to unleash their power and inspire Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast to join in its purpose.
