Meet three girls who are defying child marriage

Amrita, Nepal

In rural Nepal, child marriage is common. But when Amrita’s parents approached her about a prospective groom, she refused. “I won’t marry unless I am 20 under any circumstances. I do not want to get married before completing my education.”

Keya, Bangladesh

In Keya’s community, early and forced marriage is common – but she refuses to be another statistic. “I want to complete my studies and then think about marriage.” Through karate, she’s also encouraging other girls to stand up for their rights.

Nurul, INDONESIA

In Nurul’s village, it is believed that girls who don’t marry by 15 are destined for a life of misery. Nurul is determined to end this myth and is raising awareness about child marriage to help keep girls in school.
