Educate a girl and she can change the world

Girl sitting at a desk

At Plan International Canada, we’re putting pencils in girls’ hands so they can write their own future. Issues like poverty, illiteracy and violence can be lessened by educating girls. Issues that impact more than just one girl. Because when you educate a girl, she can change the world.

The impact of her education

Plan International Canada has clear evidence that when you educate a girl, she improves not only her own conditions, but the quality of life for her community.

Literacy

Two-thirds of the 758 million illiterate adults in the world are women. Education improves illiteracy rates.

Hiv

When she completes primary school, she is 67% less likely to contract HIV.

povertypoverty

For every extra year in school, her income can increase by up to 20%.

Child marriageChild marriage

Girls with secondary education are 6X less likely to be child brides.

ViolenceViolence

67% of girls with no education think a husband is justified in beating his wife.
