Child Protection

Plan International is committed to upholding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which clearly states that children have the right to protection from abuse, neglect and exploitation. Plan International is committed to actively preventing child abuse.

Help us protect children

If you see a photo on any Plan International website that depicts children without dignity, respect or regard for privacy, email Plan International Canada’s Child Protection Officer at or call 1-800-387-1418 ext. 201.

If you see your photo or your child's photo

We seek to obtain consent for the use of all photos. Nonetheless, if you see your own photo or your child's photo, and do not wish it to appear, you should contact us; we shall remove it promptly.

Identification of children

It should not be possible for a child to be identified or contacted either via a Plan International website or as a result of a visitor using one of our websites. If you are concerned that a child could be identified, email our Child Protection Officer at or call 1-800-387-1418 ext. 201.

Children's names

We never use children's full names on our websites. At most you will see a child's first name and the name of the district where the child lives. If we change a child's name in a story for their protection, then we say so. The names are not all real but the stories are.

Photos on this website

Photos used on Plan International Canada’s website feature children from communities and groups which we work with but it should not be inferred that they are necessarily victims of violence.
