Removing barriers to girls’ education
A few years ago, both parents of a girl named Ana passed away. Ana, now 13, lives with her younger brother and grandmother in Mozambique. She has a lot of responsibilities: cleaning, cooking, farming and attending school. When Ana was set to begin secondary school, her grandmother couldn’t pay for the school fees and supplies. Ana was selected for a scholarship from AMOR (Apoio para Melhores Oportunidades para Raparigas, which in Portuguese means Support for Enhanced Opportunities for Girls), a four-year project supported by Dubai Cares. The project helps girls to realize their rights to an education by removing physical and financial barriers to attending classes, improving the quality of teaching and learning, and ensuring that schools are safe, supportive and girl-friendly.
