Building new lives
After Libia became a mother at the age of 14, her mother supported her and the baby, but Libia needed support to build a better life for her family in Colombia. They all live in a neighbourhood known for crime, gang clashes and a commercial sex trade. Last year, Plan worked with communities to run projects that allow children and youth like Libia to take courses, support their families and build safe and healthy lives. More than 95,000 children and youth benefited from such projects. Additionally, Plan partnered with Fundación Renacer to help youth who were at risk of sexual exploitation and 320 children and adolescents who were involved in the commercial sex trade in Cartagena were rehabilitated. Such partnerships save lives and provide hope for young people.
This project receives financial support from the Government of Canada through Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD).
