Embracing all abilities at school

Every child has the right to an education, and those who gave a gift to help children with disabilities are helping ensure they receive one.

Through this gift, over 50 primary schools across Kenya were trained on how to create safe and more inclusive environments. Children learned their rights and were given platforms to voice their opinions.

Over 100 children with a disability were encouraged to participate in school clubs and events, receiving support services – like interpreters, chaperones or transportation – that made room for everyone to join in and have fun!

As a member of his school’s new Safe Spaces club, Ishmael, 12, now feels even more confident. Here, he shares an inspiring poem, explaining that disability is not inability and that all children have strengths and talents. We couldn’t agree more!
