How to use this resource

Global education is a practical and creative pedagogical approach that leads people from awareness to action on global issues. It recognizes global interdependence and the extent to which people are dependent on one another for their well-being and security. Global education also encourages individual and collective responsibility in seeking to address the root causes of poverty and injustice.

Due to the important work done by educators in Canada and elsewhere in promoting global education, international development organizations like Plan Canada have been encouraged to add global education to their public information programs. The concept of global education as an organizing principle that can be integrated into all aspects of the curriculum has gained support among educators who are preparing students for the world beyond their school walls - and the reality of life in a multicultural school community.

A global education approach lends itself to encouraging young people to identify problems and discuss a range of possible solutions. It also encourages young people to appreciate other cultures and to feel proud of their own contribution in the community.
