The Earth is a single country, and all people
are its citizens. We have to share this planet so don't be selfish. |

de Janeiro, 1992 |

- The people of the world speak about
4,000 different languages. That is 6,000 fewer languages
than were spoken a couple of centuries ago. Many more people
(700 million) speak Mandarin than any other language.
- There are more physical differences
within so-called "races" than between them.
- About 1.3 billion people (1/3 of
the world's population) live on less than $1 a day.*
- Some 160 million children are moderately
or severely malnourished. Some 110 billion are out of school.
