More than words: supplying smiles
Sometimes it’s the little things that create the biggest changes. In the hands of a child, a single pencil, piece of paper or book can make a world of difference.
And that’s exactly what your sponsorship is doing: putting important educational supplies in the hands of children – sparking learning, igniting imaginations and equipping them with the tools they need to succeed, in school and beyond.
Students show off new notebooks.
“I’ve become more attentive towards my studies,” says 10-year-old Jibon, with pride. “My hand writing is improving day by day because our community sponsors provided us with pens, pencils, erasers and writing pads. This helps me to practice at home and at school.”
Students embrace their creative side for a drawing competition you helped make happen.
Your sponsorship engaged more than 400 community members in events, like Literacy Day celebrations, to promote the importance of education.
Quiz competitions took place, testing students of all ages on topics like child rights, and awarding prizes. Every participant received their very own dictionary – for most, their first ever.
“I am very glad to receive this dictionary and will use it in my studies! For so long I did not have a dictionary in my home,” shares a delighted Monira, currently enrolled in the sixth grade.
School management committees – that you helped form – came to Plan requesting school libraries. Tasked with the challenge of limited space, together we came up with “libraries in a bag” – organized and accessible library collections that hang on walls and contain over 200 varied children’s books.
You helped send “libraries in a bag” to every classroom across 3 primary schools – for a total distribution of over 1,000 books per school!
“I can easily choose my favourite book from this bag,” says fifth-grader Selina, who loves to read comics.
Since the new addition, students have demonstrated their responsibility by independently signing books in and out for home use – a popular activity!
“Now, during leisure period, my students become busy studying their favourite books. I would like to express my gratitude for arranging these innovative libraries,” said Mr. Rahman, one school’s Head Teacher.
“This is the first time that an organization has provided us with these kinds of enjoyable and useful materials. We are very pleased and appreciate your contribution!” shares 17-year-old Rowful.
“Community sponsors have provided many essential materials that children are using to enrich their knowledge,” says Jhorna, a local school teacher.
Community worker, Mamunar agrees: he noticed a huge increase in the amount of students who passed their Primary School Certificate examination!
“There has been a remarkable change in the schools,” he shares.
