What is child sponsorship
Sponsoring a child gives you a personal perspective on a journey of positive change. You will learn what life is like for a child, family and community living in poverty, and witness how your support is helping to improve their lives.
When you sponsor a child, you’ll receive a photograph of the child and his or her family, information about the community, and an annual update. You and your family will also have a chance to reach out, through the exchange of photos and letters, to create a lasting bond of friendship with a child and family in the developing world.
Sponsorship donations are invested in grassroots programs in your sponsored child’s community. With the help of our sponsors, we work with local communities to provide the basics such as:
- Clean water to sustain life and prevent disease
- Health care so children can grow up healthy and strong
- Education to break the cycle of poverty
- Food security to ensure families can feed their children
- Livelihood initiatives, like microfinance, so parents can earn a living.
More than 70 years of experience has taught us that helping families and communities become self-sufficient is the best way to help children. Decisions on how to use the funds are based on strategic plans prepared by the in-country staff in consultation with children, communities, local governments and partner organizations.
