Because I am a Girl school tour heads across Ontario

The tour visited Breschin public school in Simcoe Country
November 13, 2009 - Two dozen high schools across Ontario will be treated to a special 90-minute concert and mock live-to-air TV talk show that interacts with the audience to discuss the issues that affect girls in Canada and around the world. Video, music and live theatre promise to keep the crowd entertained and informed.
The school tour – 411 TV: Because I am a Girl -- is hosted by journalist and radio personality Nana Aba Duncan. Singers Eternia and Masia One will perform for the show and discuss their personal experiences to generate discussion. Masia One, just back from a concert tour in Asia, will talk about a visit to Plan projects in Indonesia.
MTV Canada hosts Nicole Holness and Aliya-Jasmine Sovani, along with Diane Salema join the conversation through pre-taped segments to discuss their trips to visit girls in Haiti, Colombia and Sudan. Those visits, part of a Plan/MTV film Girls of Latitude, introduced them to an amazing girl in each country who is fighting for her rights and to make their communities better places to live, for boys and girls.
There’s an urgent need to stand up for the rights of millions of girls around the world who face barriers to survival and development simply because they’re girls. Investing in them is the key to reducing global poverty and instability for everyone.
The show’s message is simple: young Canadians are drivers of change and make a difference in the world.
The audience will see and hear first-hand stories from girls making about the challenges they face because they are girls and what they are doing to put an end to discrimination.
