2015 Top 20 Under 20™ award recipient
Mahan Nekoui, 19
Mahan’s interest in lively debate inspired him to co-found an independent school newspaper, The Reckoner. The Reckoner grew from a three-student blog to a diverse staff of over 70 students with a monthly print run of 2000. Later, in university, he co-authored a paper published in Science after contributing to a multi-million dollar project to survey the 2014 Ebola outbreak. Mahan produced a visualization of the outbreak's path in Sierra Leone, as well as a calculation of the epidemic's doubling time, which was widely cited in news media. Recently, he developed a program called “Scraping for Science”, which automatically publishes unbiased outbreak reports for the public.
